Lighthouse

Guiding families through the financial and practical decisions that follow a loss

How Lighthouse Can Help

After losing a loved one, it can be difficult to know what needs attention first, understand the financial picture they left behind, and plan for your family’s future. Lighthouse includes access to Next Steps and up to three meetings with your AIP financial advisor over twelve months. Together, we prepare an Action Plan, a Financial Snapshot, and a Bucket Plan to help you move forward with greater clarity. Watch the video to learn more.

The AIP Network

Some decisions may benefit from additional expertise. The AIP Network is a community of independent professionals who choose to collaborate when doing so can benefit a client. We are happy to introduce you to professionals whose services may fit your family’s needs. With your permission, we can share relevant information and coordinate our advice within our respective areas of expertise. You decide whether to accept an introduction, whom to hire, and which recommendations to follow. You are also free to work with professionals outside the AIP Network.

Lighthouse provides focused guidance through three practical takeaways: an Action Plan, a Financial Snapshot, and a Bucket Plan. Here is what to expect from your engagement.

Lighthouse includes up to three meetings with your AIP financial advisor during a twelve-month engagement. Each meeting focuses on one of your three reports: the Action Plan, Financial Snapshot, or Bucket Plan. You are responsible for booking your meetings within that period. Lighthouse does not automatically establish an ongoing financial planning or investment management relationship after the engagement ends.

The one-time Lighthouse fee is $2,500 and is paid before we begin your planning engagement. This fee is waived for households who become Northstar clients. Click here to learn more about becoming a Northstar client.

Next Steps is a member-only website which provides 60+ short videos and 8+ helpful e-books to guide you through many of the common tasks families face after losing a loved one.

You provide the information we need to understand your family’s situation. This might include information about your deceased loved one's finances and estate as well as your own finances and goals for the future.

Before your first meeting, you complete a short online questionnaire about your family’s circumstances. Using your answers, we prepare an Action Plan that organizes relevant steps into a suggested order of priority and explains why they matter. During the meeting, we review the report together, discuss your questions, and adjust the priorities as needed. The report may not include every task or deadline that applies to your family.

Before your second meeting, you share available information about your loved one’s accounts, property, debts, insurance, and other financial matters. We use that information to prepare a Financial Snapshot showing where things stood at the time of their death. During the meeting, we review the report, discuss important details, and identify missing information or questions that may need another professional’s attention.

Before your third meeting, we gather information about your family’s finances, expected income, living expenses, and goals. We prepare a Bucket Plan showing how your resources, including any inheritance, could support your needs over three time periods: Now, for years one through five; Soon, for years six through ten; and Later, for eleven years and beyond. During the meeting, we review the plan together and adjust it to reflect your family’s priorities.

If another professional’s expertise could benefit your family, we may offer an introduction to someone in the AIP Network—a community of independent professionals who choose to collaborate when doing so can benefit a client. With your permission, we can share relevant information and coordinate our advice. Each professional remains independent and responsible for their own advice and services.

You choose which recommendations, if any, to follow and whom you want to work with. You are not required to hire anyone in the AIP Network and may choose professionals outside the Network. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, you and your authorized representatives are responsible for carrying out tasks and meeting applicable deadlines. AIP cannot guarantee the outcome of any action you choose to take.

An introduction does not obligate you or the professional to establish a client relationship. If you choose to engage another professional, you arrange the services and any fees directly with them. Those services and fees are separate from Lighthouse. If you would like ongoing financial planning and investment guidance from AIP, you can explore a separate Northstar engagement.

You or AIP may cancel your Lighthouse engagement at any time. If you cancel before we begin working on your plan, your fee will be refunded in full. Once we begin working on your plan, the fee is nonrefundable.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit...He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3
